Steve Campbell – WF Head Football Coach
This will be Coach Steve Campbell’s 9th year as a Head Coach and 13th year coaching football overall. Before coming to Williams Field, Coach Campbell spent 7 years coaching football at McClintock High. His first three years at McClintock, Coach Campbell was the Offensive Coordinator. Coach Campbell was hired to take over the program in 2003. Coach’s first experience coaching was as a freshman football coach at Mtn. Pointe High under the legendary Coach Karl Kiefer.
Before deciding to become a coach, Campbell played a year and a half for the Arizona Rattlers and is a former ASU quarterback. He played at ASU from 1994-1998 and was a member of the Rose Bowl team as well as the starting QB for the Sun Bowl championship team in 1997. Before attending ASU, Coach Campbell played at Norco High School in California, where he was a three year starting QB for a back to back 28-0 CIF championship team. Coach Campbell graduated from ASU in 1999 with a major in Physical Education and a minor in Science. Coach Campbell also has a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology/Counseling. “Basically, I decided to get my Masters Degree in Educational Psychology/Counseling so I could figure out how to mess with kid’s minds. The truth is; I wanted to learn how kids process and think to help teach them while coaching.”
Coach Campbell married his high school sweetheart, Danielle, on June 26, 1999. They have been blessed with three beautiful boys, Colton who will be 7 on September 1st, Collin who turned 4 in July, and a 9 month old son Cashton who was born last December. “My family gives up a lot to allow me to coach but the great thing is, they are the biggest fans of this program that there is.”
“I think I am one of the luckiest people in the world. Not only because I have a great wife and kids but more important I understand that I have a great wife and kids. I want to enjoy every minute of them. At times it is hard or frustrating having three little boys but I know that someday I will look back and wish they could be this age again because it goes by way too fast. I love the time we get to spend together fishing and looking for elk on quad rides. They have taught me to take time and enjoy the moment instead of always looking ahead.”
“It has been 19 years since my wife and I started dating and I love her more every day. She has been by my side for almost every major event in my life. She is the foundation of our family, always sacrificing her time and energy to make sure the family is taken care of. The time I spend away from my family is hard on me, but it isn’t near as hard as it is on my wife who has to pick up the slack at home. She is an amazing, beautiful, and smart women and I am lucky enough to be married to her.”
“My Mom, Dad and Mother-in-law are also a huge part of our support system; I appreciate all they do while I am coaching.”
“The program’s philosophy is: attitude and effort; because those are the only two things you can control in life. With good attitude and effort, you are more likely to succeed in your undertakings throughout your life,” says Coach. In order to teach the players how to have a good attitude and effort, Coach Campbell uses the Seven Keys to Winning. The Seven Keys to Winning are a rough interpretation of a book called Seven Habits for Highly Effective Teens.
