Freshman Coaching Staff

Todd O’Brian

New to Williams Field, Head Freshman Coach, Todd O’Brian is in his eleventh year of coaching football. Coach O’Brian began his coaching career as an Assistant JV coach at Gilbert High School, and then became the Head Freshman Coach for the next five years. He comes to us from Desert Ridge, where he coached the last two years. He is a graduate of Westwood High School, where he played football and baseball, before attending Scottsdale Community College, where he played football for two years. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Ottawa University, and is a Special Education teacher at Williams Field High School.

Coach O’Brian has been married to his high school sweetheart, Traci, for twenty one years. They have four children, Chelsey, 17, Courtney, 15, Josh, 14, and Jackson, 11. Coach and Mrs. O’Brian also are foster parents to three children.

 

Ray Martin

 Freshman Assistant Coach, Ray Martin, is an Arizona native and graduate of Gilbert High School, where he played four years of football as a defensive back. After graduation, he began working in the air conditioning field, and became Plant Foreman for Gilbert Schools in 1989, and currently works for the Chandler School District. Coach Martin has coached football since 2001, beginning with youth programs, before joining Williams Field as Freshman Line-Backers and Special Teams coach.

Coach Martin enjoys hunting, fishing and all outdoor activities. He also enjoys cruise vacations with his family, and seeing different cultures and meeting different people. His family includes his wife Sarah, daughter Ashley, and sons Ray Jr., Matthew and Max.

Manny Gomez

Freshman Offensive and Defensive Line coach, Manny Gomez, served as the strength and condition coach for Coach Campbell in 2009. He was a Player/Coach for the Tempe Devils of the AZFL in 2001, and Defensive Coordinator for Hendrix Jr. High School, 1993-1995. Coach Gomez has a BA in Psychology and a Masters in Physical Education from ASU. He currently is employed at Basha’s Grocery.

Coach Gomez has been married to his wife, Kathy, for eight years, and has two children, Elizabeth, 8, and Jacob (P-Nut), 4. He loves spending time with his family, working out, training young athletes, and walking the beaches of San Diego. Coach Gomez is huge ASU fan, bleeding Maroon and Gold!

Jared Szymanoski

 

Our Freshman Defensive Backs and Wide Receivers coach is Jared Szymanoski. Coach Ski is a senior at ASU, studying Secondary Education. When not attending classes and coaching, he works at ASU in the education department, and has his own real estate photography business.

Coach Szymanoski is a car enthusiast, and was once employed at a speed shop, where he was able to work on expensive cars. On weekends, he likes to drag race at Speed World. He is an avid triathlete, who loves to cycle, and is a personal trainer, specializing in speed and agility. Coach Szymanoski shares a home with his loving girlfriend, Raeni, and a cockatiel named Honeydew.

Carlos Cortez-Garcia

 

Freshman GA, Carlos Cortez- Garcia was a senior on last year’s 4A-II runner up, Williams Field Black Hawks. Carlos is a full time student and is attending ASU as a freshman, studying Business Management. As the second member of the Williams Field High School Graduate Assistant program, Carlos is gaining valuable experience coaching the Offensive Line and Defensive Line.
