There were fireworks in the sky and more fireworks on the field, as the Williams Field  Black Hawks Varsity rebounded from last weeks difficult loss to Canyon del Oro with a 49-3 drubbing of Tucson Amphitheater on Homecoming night, Friday. The scoring began with the Black Hawks second possession, a 25 yard touchdown carry by senior Alex Howard at 3:34 of the first quarter.  The Black Hawks  struck again with a 30 yard touchdown pass by sophomore Jeddediah Fagg to junior Sean Schweichler at 11:52 of the second quarter. Amphitheater scored on a 37 yard field goal at 5:44 of second quarter, but the Black Hawks answered with a 68 yard run by Howard with 4:04. Another long Howard carry set up an 8 yard Schweichler TD at 1:36, that was quickly followed by a 56 yard Schweichler punt return at :54, and  brought the score to 35-3 as the first half expired.

Two more touchdowns followed in the second half, and the final score was Black Hawks 49, Amphitheater 3. Alex Howard scored three TDs and Sean Schweichler had four, and the Black Hawks made all kicks, Derek Gregson had six and Kim Arayata had one. The Black Hawks did not turn the ball over  but were assessed 7 penalties for 56 yards.

The Black Hawks next game is on the road against their arch rivals, the Higley Knights, who will be looking to avenge last years loss. Lets all make plans to attend and let the victories keep coming!

The 3-0 Williams Field Black Hawks traveled to Tucson for their most challenging game yet this season, when they took on the Division II Canyon Del Oro Dorado.  The game started with a promising forced turn-over which put the ball in the hands of the Black Hawks, but two consecutive poor punts gave the ball to CDO with a short field, who promptly took it to the end zone. Special teams blocked the extra point kick, and CDO went up 6-0.

The Black Hawks scored on an Alex Howard carry early in the second quarter, and the successful extra point put the Black Hawks up 7-6. Halftime found the Black Hawks down 14-7, but receiving the ball at the start of the third quarter. Then the wheels came off with a succession of turnovers, and the Black Hawks found themselves trailing 34-7. Sophomore quarterback, Jeddediah Fagg, led two successful touchdown drives in the fourth quarter, but another turnover sealed their fate, and CDO cruised to a 40-21 victory.

Thanks go out to the Black Hawk Regiment, and all the fans that made the trip to Tucson, for all their support.

Homecoming game is this Friday, against Amphitheater, so come and cheer the Black Hawks to victory, then stay for the fireworks!
