Black Hawks Frosh 39, Queen Creek 28

Thursday, October 27, 2011 By Laurel Adamcik

The Black Hawks Freshman closed out the 2011 season Wednesday at home against the Queen Creek Bulldogs in an exciting offensive slugfest. The Bulldogs scored first but could not convert the point after touchdown. The Black Hawks responded with the first of four Fabian Ortiz touchdowns, and the conversion put the Black Hawks up 7-6 midway through the first quarter. A fumbled punt return turned the ball over in the red zone and set Queen Creek up for the next score, as the Bulldogs punched through on a short run outside. Queen Creek went for a two point conversion but failed, putting them back on top 12-7. The Black Hawks missed a field goal attempt, turning the ball over on downs, but the defense held, and the offensive march up the field culminated in a nice run by Gabriel Micks, up the middle for a touchdown, putting Williams Field up 14-12. On the next Queen Creek possession, Shane Fine stripped the ball and Vicente Ortega recovered the fumble, giving the Black Hawks the ball at the Bulldogs 10 yard line. Two plays later, Ortiz found the end zone for the second time, and Black Hawks went up 20-12 in the closing seconds of the first half.

The pace kept up in the second half, with the Kenny Owens breaking free for a longtouchdown run three minutes into the third quarter. The Black Hawks and the Bulldogs both found the end zone two more times before the night was over, but was Williams Field victorious, 39-28.

The Freshmen end the season 6-2. We hope to see everyone back next year on the Black Hawks JV team, and congratulations to the coaching staff for an exciting season. The Varsity close out their regular season Friday at home against Queen Creek on Senior Night. Please come out early and show your support.
