It was a night of big plays as Rivalry Week continued Thursday night, with the JV Black Hawks picking up where the Frosh left off. Higley won the coin toss, deferred and kicked shallow, but Nick Adamcik managed to get the ball and returned it the length of the field for the first score, just 12 seconds into the game. Riley Gaumnitz converted and the Black Hawks had the first lead of the game, 7-0. Higley’s first drive stalled and they had to punt, giving the Black Hawks the ball, but a fumble on the first play of the drive gave the Knights possession with a short field, setting up an easy score. A two point conversion gave Higley the lead 8-7 at 6:35 of the first quarter. The Black Hawks had a punt blocked on their next possession, giving the Knights the ball at the Black Hawks 20, but the defense held, and the Knights turned it over on downs. A 40 yard run by Kyle Gill set up a 37 yard touchdown run by Jacob Anderson, but a failed a 2 point conversion put the Black Hawks back on top 13-8

Higley marched the ball up the field for a TD at 9:15 of the second quarter, and the Knights led 14-13. Gill and Anderson teamed again on another touchdown drive and Roman Sholtens took a punt return to the house. Black Hawks lead 26-14 at 6:55. Noah Del Los Monteros recovered a Higley fumble, but the Black Hawks gave it back. The Black Hawks defense held. Anderson scored on a spectacular 67 yard run, breaking tackles and blowing by defenders along the way. Sholtens had a pick six and Anderson ended the half with a 50 yard touchdown reception play, bringing the score to 46-14, Black Hawks.

Gale scored two more TDs and Gabe Cobb has a 20 yard TD run. The third quarter ended with Williams Field on top 60-14.

The Knights scored three times against the Black Hawks second team in the fourth quarter, but Williams Field wins 60-34, giving the Black Hawks JV their first victory over Higley in their five years of existence.

The Black Hawks Varsity is up next in the much anticipated finale at Higley High School at 7pm Friday. The game is being steamed live by AIA360.com and is the Channel 3 Varsity Zone game of the week, but please come out to the game in person and give our boys our support as they look to complete the sweep!
